Sermon on The Second Amendment

Today I’m preaching about the Second Amendment to the US Constitution and whether the Bible endorses the use of weapons for self-defense.

And you might ask why I’m preaching about the 2nd Amendment at church on a Sunday morning.

Well, first, as Christians living in America, we should be familiar with our fundamental laws.

Second, the Constitution & the Bill of Rights are based on our natural, God-given rights as man.

For example, THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE begins with a reference to the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God.

And when it refers to NATURE it’s not talking about mountains and hiking trails and trees, not physical nature.

… but the spiritual & moral LAWS which God has instituted within the structure of the universe.

NATURAL LAW is a term for what exists inherently by the order of God’s Creation, universally.

What this means in plain language is that our RIGHTS as men have their origin EXCLUSIVELY in the Godhead.
In other words, the government does not create or distribute rights.

Rather, it serves to PROTECT RIGHTS that we already possess, which are ordained and given to us by God at the moment of our inception as men.

The Declaration of Independence reads:
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed …

So our founding documents declare that governments derive their limited powers by our permission in order to preserve our God-given rights …

And that the GOVERNMENT’S SOLE PURPOSE is to SECURE & DEFEND those rights from being infringed upon by both foreign and domestic enemies …

And our government today is not only failing to uphold our Constitution and our God-given rights …

… but actually conspiring with the New World Order powers that be, in order to obfuscate those rights.

And they do this from year to year or decade or decade or from one generation to the next, in a drip-by drip strategy known as incrementalism.

It starts w/ gun registration & background checks & ends with total confiscation as the end goal.

So when you consider all this, it’s perfectly appropriate as Christian first and Americans second to lay hold onto these truths …

… and to discuss them within the Biblical framework of the church and the Word of God!

And most pastors are too afraid to talk about things like abortion or gun control or even the sodomite & transgendered agenda …

… which is quickly sweeping across our nation, because they’re too afraid of losing their tax-exempt status.

And that’s one reason why we’re not a 501c3 corporation.

I firmly believe that churches should not incorporate and should not run their churches like a business!

But because of covetousness for the tithe which has been done away with in Christ under the new covenant …

… churches agree to sign a document that obligates them to keep their mouths shut about certain issues, which the government deems to be “political”.

But as Christians, we are free to discuss everything & anything, as our conscience permits, especially in the light the Bible, without fear of government interference.

So go ahead and turn in your Bibles to MATTHEW 10.

There are 2 related passages that I want to compare side by side.

The first is in Matthew 10, where Jesus instructs the apostles NOT TO TAKE ANY BASIC PROVISIONS WITH THEM when He commissions them to preach the Gospel.

… and then on another occasion, in Luke 22, during the Last Supper, Jesus instructs the apostles to take provisions …

… & to even to SELL THEIR GARMENTS & TO BUY SWORDS!

• And I’d like to begin w/ these two passages today, starting w/ Matthew 10:7-11.

So Jesus instructed the apostles to preach w/out taking along any basic provisions.

The disciples had to rely on God’s Providence alone through the generosity & hospitality of those they preached to in order to sustain & to feed them.

They were to take no money, no staff, no extra coat, no scrip, but solely rely on God’s Providence.

Notice that the SWORD was not excluded here, but everything else was!

But this was what Jesus instructed, [and here’s the key], WHILE HE WAS STILL HERE WITH THEM ON EARTH.

• But now turn to LUKE 22, & we get a very different picture.

• READ LUKE 22:35-38

So Jesus Himself told the apostles to take basic necessities, & that if they didn’t have a SWORD, to BUY A SWORD!

& of course, a SWORD was the common weapon of the day.

In today’s modern equivalent, that would probably be a 9mm semi-automatic, a .45, or an AR-15 assault refile, depending on who you talk to.

And, of course, our politicians want to change that, because they have their own agenda, and they know that weapons in the hands of the people is power over the tyranny of the government.
• That’s why our 2nd Amendment was written … it wasn’t for hunting … it wasn’t even for self-defense …

… because nobody in their right minds disputed that you can’t defend yourself or your family!

That was a GIVEN! It was just common sense.

The 2nd Amendment reads:
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

But the government today is pushing for “gun control”, NOT BECAUSE THEY WANT TO PROTECT US.

It’s a part of the broader NEW WORLD ORDER masterplan to disarm Americans for greater subjugation & eventual slavery.

– Mao Tze Tung, Communist Revolutionary and Founder of the People’s Republic of China said in 1938: “All political power comes from the barrel of a gun. The communist party must command all the guns, that way, no guns can ever be used to command the party.”

China established gun control in 1935.
And from 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents were rounded up and exterminated.

HITLER said: “The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to allow the subject races to possess arms.
History shows that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by so doing.”

Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, untold millions and millions were rounded up and exterminated.

And, there’s this trend going around the Internet that I’m seeing of people, including some Christians, defending Hitler!

And they’re deceived because they’ve taken their hatred for Zionism too far!

Hitler was no hero! He was a type of the Anti-Christ!

Whether Hitler killed 13 million Jews as the official narrative says or whether he killed 1 million Jews …

… he was still a Satanic demon-possessed Hell-bound anti-Christ w/ a eugenics agenda …

… and it’s astonishing that people are defending him today!

Josef Stalin, the leader of the Soviet Union from 1924 to 1953, said: “If the opposition disarms, well and good. If it refuses to disarm, we shall disarm it ourselves.”

In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control.
From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million were rounded up and exterminated.

Now, some say that the SWORD Jesus told His disciples to buy, was meant to be used only as a TOOL, & not a weapon.

But look up the 404 instances of the word “SWORD” in the Bible and you’ll quickly see how SWORDS are overwhelmingly, if not exclusively, used as weapons.

The 1st time the word, “Sword” appears in the Bible, cherubim are protecting the TREE OF LIFE from sinful man, using A SWORD in a DEFENSIVE GESTURE.

Genesis 3:24: “So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.”

Now, some commentators say that the two “swords” that Jesus told His disciples to buy were only symbolic …

… to signal to His disciples that there was impending danger ahead, leading up to His arrest.

& While there’s some truth to that, they are over-spiritualizing the Bible.

Jesus said to buy literal swords, not figurative swords.

This passage is better understood when you realize that Jesus said this during the LAST SUPPER.

Jesus was preparing His disciples for the new conditions that they would face in the world, after He would be taken away from them.

Earlier, Jesus told them NOT TO BUY SWORDS, because He was with them and would supernaturally protect & sustain them.

None of the disciples had been persecuted yet, none of them had been slain or martyred.

They hadn’t yet faced the violence they were about to endure, and Jesus was sending them a clear message:

… violence and opposition is headed your way.

Without Jesus Himself being physically present with them, they would face danger as human beings.

Of course, God’s providence guides us still today …

… I’m a firm believer of God’s SUPERNATURAL HEDGE OF PROTECTION & FAVOR over His chosen people …

God will protect us from dangers we don’t even know exist!

… but God also gives us the means to protect ourselves.

And in the world, there is going to be the real threat of violence at times.

… And it’s our God-given right as men to protect ourselves and our loved ones.

• The Bible says DO NOT TEMPT THE LORD THY GOD.

We need to take practical steps to protect ourselves & our families.

Jesus said to SELL YOUR GARMENTS AND TO BUY A SWORD!

• It was a COMMAND!

Basically, He was saying, even if you have to SELL YOUR CLOTHES to buy a weapon, THEN DO IT!

Jesus was saying a sword is so necessary in this life that you should even trade basic necessities for it.

But then there are people who will say, JESUS SAID, TO TURN THE OTHER CHEEK …

& not resist evil when confronted w/ violence.

Now, there’s some truth to that …

If you’re witnessing and preaching the Gospel, you may be martyred.
But this is not talking about the right to self-defense in your own house or about someone accosting you randomly on the streets.

So Turn to MATTHEW 5:38-48.

When this passage is read within its proper context, it becomes clear that it’s not talking about self-defense in any way, shape, or form.

What it is talking about is personal enemies, personal vendettas, personal vengeance towards who WE perceive to be our enemies.

In this life, we get into disputes with people from time to time.

And often it’s with our own brothers or our own families or friends or our neighbors.

And Jesus is addressing relations with people.

He’s not saying that if your wife is about to be raped or your children are about to be molested, that you should do nothing and just turn the other cheek.

That would be evil! And God is not evil!

A slap on the cheek is metaphorical of personal offenses.

Jesus wants us to take our personal animosities to higher ground.

Proverbs 25:26: “A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.”

What that means is that someone who fails to stand up to the wicked is a broken fountain or a corrupt spring, that doesn’t work anymore.

He’s useless, he doesn’t function as he should, he’s broken and not good to anyone.

And we’re commanded not only to defend ourselves, but ALSO OTHERS who face violence.

Proverbs 24:10-12:
10 If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.
11 If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain;
12 If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?

The Bible is saying that if you fail to defend others who are facing violence, GOD WILL JUDGE YOU & reward or punish you accordingly.

ANOTHER OBJECTION that people bring up is when Jesus rebuked Peter for cutting off the ear of the High Priests’ servant, when JESUS was being arrested.

TURN TO JOHN 18:10-11

Notice that Jesus didn’t tell Peter to get rid of his sword or rebuke him for carrying a sword …

… But He told Peter to PUT AWAY his sword, to put it back into its sheath! – AT HIS SIDE.

He was saying, Peter …. This is not the right time!

Jesus was saying that He must be arrested, suffer, and die …

… because that was what He came here to do.

In the same account in Matthew 26:53-54, Jesus said:
53Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?
54But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?

Cutting off the servants ear was also an unnecessary act of violence and vengeance by Peter.

That’s the lesson here.

Jesus said in Matthew 26:52, “For all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.”
Jesus was saying don’t rely on the sword for life, but on God.

If your faith is in your sword only, you’re gonna die!

ULTIMATELY, the object of our faith should be God, and not our ability to fight.

David said in Psalm 144:1: “Blessed be the LORD my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight:”

But David knew, that ultimately, His strength came from the LORD.

David said in Psalm 18:32-37:
32 It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect.
33 He maketh my feet like hinds’ feet, and setteth me upon my high places.
34 He teacheth my hands to war, so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms.
35 Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy right hand hath holden me up, and thy gentleness hath made me great.
36 Thou hast enlarged my steps under me, that my feet did not slip.
37 I have pursued mine enemies, and overtaken them: neither did I turn again till they were consumed.

And even though David trained his hands for battle, when he slew Goliath, he said in 1 Samuel 17:47: “And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD’S, and he will give you into our hands.”

But David still used a sword to accomplish his purposes. The two go hand-in-hand.

Ultimately, THE BATTLE IS THE LORD’S, but we need to be prepared to defend ourselves when necessary.

While David knew that it was God’s providence that delivered him from his enemies …

… he didn’t just pray and sit-on-his-hands and hope that God would deliver him.

He took action.

He pursued his enemies and overtook them.

• The government isn’t here to protect you, today.

• And in most cases, neither are the police.

By the time you call 911 & wait for the police, if someone breaks into your house, it’s too late!

It’s our responsibility as men to protect our homes.

Matthew 12:29 says: “Or else how can one enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house.”

Jesus is using an illustration of a “strong man” who is capable of defending his own home.

So Jesus Himself is praising the man who is strong enough to defend his own goods.

Luke 12:39: “And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through.”

And the Bible even lays out specific instructions on how & when to defend ourselves.

Turn to EXODUS 22:2-3:
2 If a thief be found breaking up, and be smitten that he die, there shall no blood be shed for him.
3 If the sun be risen upon him, there shall be blood shed for him; for he should make full restitution; if he have nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.

So this is setting up two standards of defense.

If a thief breaks in at night, the Bible says you can kill him in the line of defense.

And the Bible says that’s justified!
If someone is breaking into your house in the middle of the night, they’re obviously there to harm you.

And you need to defend yourself by any means necessary.

But the standard is different during the day-time.
Because you have the light of day and can better assess whether an intruder is intending to harm you or is just after your goods.

In this case, killing an intruder at first sight, would be overkill.

So the Law of God endorses appropriate force in self-defense.

When Jesus rebuked Peter for cutting off the servant’s ear, Jesus was also saying …

… Don’t use your sword to seek vengeance.

The Bible says: “Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord” in Romans 12:19.

Proverbs 20:22 says: “Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee.”

So our weapons should never be used for personal vengeance or unlawful killing.

And once you take into account all the instances of weapons used in the Bible, especially for self-defense, it becomes even clearer.

A great example is Abraham when he was living in the plains of Mamre near his cousin Lot.

Some of the surrounding kingdoms had risen up against the King of Sodom and the king of Gomorra and took Abram’s cousin, Lot and his family, captive.

LOOK AT GENESIS 14:11-16

Esther is another example.

After Esther saved her people from utter destruction, the king of Persia granted that all the Jews of every city to defend themselves against anyone who would seek to harm them.

Esther 8:11: “Wherein the king granted the Jews which were in every city to gather themselves together, and to stand for their life, to destroy, to slay, and to cause to perish, all the power of the people and province that would assault them, both little ones and women, and to take the spoil of them for a prey,”

Esther 9:5: “Thus the Jews smote all their enemies with the stroke of the sword, and slaughter, and destruction, and did what they would unto those that hated them.”

So, again, there is a clear Biblical mandate for self-defense.
When Nehemiah was commissioned to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem, after the Babylonian captivity, he defended the site of the temple mount from Israel’s enemies.

Nehemiah 4:
16 And it came to pass from that time forth, [that] the half of my servants wrought in the work, and the other half of them held both the spears, the shields, and the bows, and the habergeons; and the rulers [were] behind all the house of Judah.
17 They which builded on the wall, and they that bare burdens, with those that laded, [every one] with one of his hands wrought in the work, and with the other [hand] held a weapon.
18 For the builders, every one had his sword girded by his side, and [so] builded. And he that sounded the trumpet [was] by me.

I love that passage because, half of them were laboring in rebuilding the temple and the other half were just standing by with weapons in their hands, ready for defense.

And these were God’s people!

But our culture today has become SISSIFIED & EFFIMINATE!

I’d rather have every able-bodied law-abiding American citizen armed to the teeth …

… let the good guys have the weapons!

GUN CONTROL only penalizes law-abiding citizens, and makes us all easy prey for criminals.

And the Law of the Land should be open carry in every State.

That’s what the 2nd Amendment called for.

But we’ve created these arbitrary bylaws that are contrary to the United States Constitution.

As far as I’m concerned, the Constitution is my open-carry permit.

But the reality is, those in power in our government today, have bigger arms than I do and compel me to obey their fake illegal laws against my will.

Because make no mistake about it, any laws that are contrary to the US Constitution are unlawful!

And when our courts are corrupt, and Congress is corrupt, and the executive branch is corrupt, and federalism has usurped State power …

… the checks and balances are grossly out of order and the people must react!

Otherwise, we will find ourselves in this precarious situation, where we have to bow to New World Order’s global agenda.
And there are many other examples of men of God defending themselves against evil.

Samson slew a thousand Canaanites with the jawbone of a donkey.

David slew Goliath! He didn’t turn the other cheek!

And the Bible uses WEAPONS AS IMAGERY throughout.

The Bible isn’t going to use something evil as a positive illustration of the Kingdom of God.

The very fact that the Bible mentions weapons in a positive light, is itself an endorsement.

Jesus is described as having a two-edged Sword in His mouth in the Book of Revelation.

Paul tells us to take up the whole armour of God and the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God in Ephesians 6.

Pauls tells Timothy to: “Fight the good fight of faith”.

Psalm 127 describes having many children as “arrows … in the hand of a mighty man.”

And, look, I’m not one of those guys that’s at the shooting range every week.

But we have to hold our politicians and our government accountable.

We have to hold them accountable to the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God!

America is the last bastion of Light and freedom left on earth …

… because there is still a remnant of strong believers who are here.

But people have become afraid to even talk about certain things. Even afraid of their own government.

And it never used to be like that!

Growing up here, we could say anything we wanted without taking the slightest thought!

The idea that we had to watch what we say was foreign to us.

That’s what set us apart from the rest of the nations!

That’s why this topic is still important.

Once America falls, it’s over. Welcome New World Order.

And eventually, that will happen. It feels like it’s happening already.
ULTIMATELY, our goal as Christians isn’t to change the world, but to preach the Gospel of Jesus and to live peaceably with all men.

Because evil will not be vanquished until Jesus returns.

But for now, Joel 3:10 says: “Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruninghooks into spears: let the weak say, I am strong.”

This is a picture of farmers turning their plows into swords.

But when Jesus returns, Isaiah 2:4 says we will beat our swords into plowshares:

“And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.”

But that will only happen once Satan has been vanquished and the world itself has been redeemed.

Until then, let our prayers coincide with the prophet Isaiah in Isaiah 54:17: “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.”
