JESUS vs. YESHUA

Psalm 9:10 says: “And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.”

But there’s great controversy today concerning the name of Jesus and the name Jehovah.

How many of you have heard someone call Jesus YESHUA …

… or instead of using the name JEHOVAH, they insist on YAWEH as more accurate?

& often such people are associated with a religious movement, called the “Hebrew Roots Movement” …

… or some who don’t like that name, prefer to call themselves, “TORAH OBSERVANT”.

& their version of Jesus, which they insist on calling YESHUA, …

…. comes with a whole set of religious doctrines that are very, very different from what Christianity teaches.

In fact, most of them will not call themselves CHRISTIANS, and they view Christianity as a dirty word …

… they’ve COMPLETELY DIVORCED themselves from what they consider WESTERN CHRISTIANITY …

… & they make the claim that CHRISTIANITY has been utterly PAGANIZED.
& they view themselves as a part of an End-Times renewal of TRUE CHRISTIANITY in preparation for the return of Christ.

But I’m going to propose to you that nearly everything that they teach is FALSE.

And you can’t really even consider them as CHRISTIANS who are in error or who have fallen into HERESY …

… but you have to treat them like a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT RELIGION …

… just as you would MORMONS or JEHOVAH’S FALSE WITNESSES or ISLAM or JUDAISM.

& so I will be doing a 2-PART SERMON exposing some of the false teachings coming out of the so-called “TORAH OBSERVANT” Hebrew Roots Movement.

In this first part, which is today’s sermon …

… I will be focusing exclusively on the NAME OF GOD:

JESUS vs. YESHUA, & JEHOVAH vs. YAWEH, & even the use of the title, “THE LORD” in our English Bibles.

& so that will be the FOCUS of today’s sermon.

& In the second part, next week …

… I will be focusing on the DOCTRINAL ASPECTS of their TEACHINGS, & refuting them from a Biblical, CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVE.

By the time these two sermons are complete …

… you will see that they have a DIFFERENT NAME, preach a DIFFERENT GOSPEL, and worship ANOTHER SPIRIT.

& so we’ll get into the specific teachings, like whether it’s OK for Christians to EAT PORK …

… whether Christians should keep a Saturday Sabbath (like the ancient Jews & Israelites did) …

… & whether as Christians we are bound to the MOSAIC LEVITICAL LAWS …

… or whether we are under the NEW COVENANT initiated by the shed blood of JESUS CHRIST.

& SO LET’S BEGIN WITH THE NAME.

Acts 4:10-12
10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.
11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

The Bible says that the name that we use to call on GOD FOR SALVATION is important.

“By the name of Jesus Christ of Nazereth”.

This title not only weds Jesus to the title of Christ, which is the Messiah, but associates Him with the specific Jesus who was of Nazareth.

It places Jesus within the Scriptures as the Messiah & within an historical, literal context of His person.

Romans 10:9 says: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

I’ve heard people say that it really doesn’t matter what we call Jesus, as long as we are talking about the same God.

I disagree.

The Bible is very specific about through whose name we obtain salvation.

I’m not going to call Jesus ALLAH or BUDDAH or even YESHUA …

… if it hasn’t been proven to me without a shadow of a doubt, that that is His name.

Whereas we see that the name JESUS is proven by Scripture, in the English language.

Now, obviously if you live in Mexico, His name is JESUS.

And if you live in modern Israel, it may be YAHOSHUA (from the name Joshua).

I’m not saying that the ENGLISH NAME is the only name.

But I’m going to prove to you today that YESHUA is just another modern translation of His original name …

… not any more accurate or close to the original than JESUS.

But either way that you look at it, the NAME does matter.

Philippians 2:9-11 says:
9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

In Acts 2:38 also, Peter speaking to a group of Jews on the day of Pentecost, said: “… Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”

Again, the apostles emphasize over & over again that the name matters.

• I WAS WATCHING a part of the presidential prayer breakfast the other day …

… and people from various religions were gathered to pray for the nation and for the president ….

… but none of them (at least the part that I watched) used the name of JESUS.

& so what they were praying to is the UNKNOWN, NAMELESS ECUMENICAL GOD.

& I want no part of that.

That is the EXACT OPPOSITE of what the Bible teaches …

… which is to assign IMPORTANCE & a PERSONAL NATURE to God, by naming Him.

OUR GOD is not a GENERIC, ECUMENICAL, NAMELESS God.

If I were president, I would say IN THE NAME OF JESUS, & I wouldn’t care if it offended the MUSLIMS or the JEWS.

Naming God makes Him EXCLUSIVE.

The DOOR is not open to those who deny the name of Jesus.

Jeremiah 10:6 says: “Forasmuch as there is none like unto thee, O LORD; thou art great, and thy name is great in might.”

• We also see in Matthew 1:21, that at the announcement of the BIRTH OF JESUS …

… that God literally named Jesus, & announced His name to Joseph through an angel.

Matthew 1:18-21:
18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.
20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

& We see that the Bible itself defines what the name JESUS means.

We really don’t need to go to LEXICONS & OUTSIDE SOURCES & SECULAR SCHOLARS to define Bible words.

God has pre-built a DICTIONARY into the Bible.

And the reason I bring that up is because every attack on the name of Jesus is extra-Biblical.

The name YESHUA is found nowhere in Scripture, at least not in English.

The Bible says: “… thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.”

We see that the name Jesus means TO SAVE.

So the NAME “JESUS” literally means “SAVIOR”.

BUT THE CLAIM IS that somehow YESHUA is more accurate than JESUS …

… and that the name JESUS is a PAGAN CORRUPTION.

But it’s really just a way for religious Pharisees and Judaizers …

… which is exactly what they are when you examine their doctrine …

To feel holier than thou, as though they have some sort of secret, gnostic knowledge about the name of Jesus –

… which sets them apart from the rest of Christiandom.

Here are some statements from people who attack the NAME OF JESUS, JEHOVAH, & the LORD make:

“The name of YAHshua has pagan origins & has been replaced by the name G-ZEUS (as in the false greek god ZEUS)”

“The name Baal means “Lord” in Hebrew. The church translators replaced the true name of God with the title, “LORD. When people use the title The LORD, they are unknowingly worshiping a pagan idol.”

“The name Jesus is a linguistic impossibility, because the Letter J didn’t exist until 400 years ago.”

• We’re gonna return to that last one at the end of the sermon, but let me destroy the meat of their argument in just a few minutes.

The HEBREW SPOKEN TODAY is NOT the HEBREW that was SPOKEN in ANCIENT ISRAEL.

Ancient Hebrew had ceased to be a SPOKEN LANGUAGE somewhere between 200 & 400 AD.

HEBREW BECAME A DEAD LANGUAGE & was not spoken for almost 1,500 years.

But then in the 19TH CENTURY …

… a group of Jewish scholars RECONSTRUCTED & REVIVED Hebrew as a spoken language again.

And so the HEBREW that is spoken today …

… was the result of this SCHOLARLY RECONSTRUCTION from the 19TH CENTURY.

MODERN SCHOLARS – most if not all of which were unsaved Christ-rejecting Jews – RECONSTRUCTED ancient Hebrew …

… and took their best EDUCATED GUESS as to how the HEBREW OF ANCIENT TIMES may have sounded.

& so it’s really important to distinguish between ANCIENT HEBREW & MODERN HEBREW as a SPOKEN TONGUE.

Now, could His name have sounded like YESHAU or YAHOSHUA?

Maybe. We just don’t know – AS FAR AS THE PRONUNCIATION.

We can get into the name itself: JOSHUA, JESHUA (which is a shortened form of JOSHUA) & JESUS & we will …

But as far as the PRONUNCIATION goes …

All we can say about “YESHUA” for certain:

is that it’s just ANOTHER MODERN TRANSLATION of HIS ORIGINAL NAME …

… just like JESUS or JESUS.

They’re all translations of HIS ORIGINAL NAME & one is not greater than another …

… but each is suitable for each native tongue.

& so if you’re a HEBREW-SPEAKING JEW living in Israel …
… or maybe you’re a Jew who grew up here in America & you identify with the MODERN HEBREW name YESHUA …

… that’s fine. I have no problem with that.

But that’s not the ASSERTION BEING MADE.

The ASSERTION is that YESHUA is MORE ACCURATE than JESUS & that JESUS is A CORRUPTION of His name.

• & so when you get GENTILE-BORN ENGLISH-SPEAKING “TORAH OBSERVANT” heretics going around insisting that His name is really YESHUA not JESUS …

… and we all have to call Him Yeshua now …

… or that they have some sort of upperhand knowledge about His name, and that us poor Westernized Christians don’t have …

I take issue w/ that.

& BTW: SPEAK ENGLISH.

• When I call a company, I don’t want to PRESS 1 for SPANISH.

I just don’t. It frustrates me.
Because like this IMMIGRATION ISSUE that we’re having right now …

… If you come here, you need to be willing to assimilate into aspects of the culture.

When I was growing up, they called AMERICA a MELTING POT …

… because everyone who came here would blend, would assimilate, & would become a part of that society …

So when I’m speaking to an American, I don’t want to hear YAWEH & YESHUA …

I want to hear JESUS & JEHOVAH.

& when it comes to the RECONSTRUCTION of MODERN HEBREW as a language …

… the reconstructive work that was undertaken by these scholars …

… was partially influenced by a EUROPEAN MINDSET …

… because many of the SCHOLARS were ASHKENAZI JEWS …

Who were influenced by YIDDISH …

… which is a mixture of German & a couple Eastern European languages mixed in with a bit of Hebrew.

Most MODERN HEBREW REVIVALISTS spoke YIDDISH and were ASHKENAZI Jews themselves …

… and some LINGUISTS believe that this DEFINITELY played a role in influencing pronunciations of MODERN HEBREW.

Ghil’ad Zuckermann, a Jewish scholar, wrote an article in the JOURNAL OF MODERN JEWISH STUDIES …

… called “A New Vision for ‘Israeli Hebrew’ …

Theoretical and Practical Implications of Analysing Israel’s Main Language as a Semi-Engineered Semito-European Hybrid Language”

In it, he said that:

… that “Yiddish is a primary contributor to Israeli Hebrew because it was the mother tongue of the vast majority of language revivalists and first pioneers in the land of Israel at the crucial period of the beginning of Israeli Hebrew”.

According to Zuckermann, although the revivalists wished to speak Hebrew with Semitic grammar & pronunciation …

… they could not avoid the Ashkenazi mindset arising from their European background.
In other words, they were ingrained with it …

… and so contamination of modern understanding would undoubtedly influence modern pronunciation.

The Bottom line is we don’t know how the name JESUS was pronounced in ancient Israel.

There’s a reason why Jesus chose to be begotten in the flesh 2,000 years ago …

… before there were audio recordings.

Jesus didn’t want the pronunciation of His name to become a SACRED COW …

& Jesus wanted his Word to be TRANSLATABLE into the LANGUAGE OF ALL PLACES & ALL TIME PERIODS.

WE SEE EVIDENCE OF THIS IN ACTS 2:3-11:
3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.
7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?
8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?
9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,
10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,
11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.

And Peter goes on to quote Scripture in every language.

The HOLY GHOST translated HIS WORD perfectly & in REAL TIME …

ACTS 2 is evidence that the HOLY SPIRIT is ABLE to TRANSLATE & to PRESERVE HIS WORD WITHOUT ERROR in any language.

• NOW, ONE THING WE DO KNOW …

Is that Jesus’ name in HEBREW was what we would think of as JOSHUA today.

It was the same name, with JOSHUA being the HEBREW & JESUS being the GREEK translated into ENGLISH.

We know this because in ACTS 7:44-45, we see the OLD TESTAMENT JOSHUA referred to as JESUS in the NEW TESTAMENT.

And while some people claim this is an error in the KJV, the KJV gets it EXACTLY RIGHT.

44 Our fathers had the tabernacle of witness in the wilderness, as he had appointed, speaking unto Moses, that he should make it according to the fashion that he had seen.
45 Which also our fathers that came after brought in with Jesus into the possession of the Gentiles, whom God drave out before the face of our fathers, unto the days of David;

This is in reference to the TABERNACLE in the WILDERNESS, which Joshua took with him into the PROMISED LAND.

Hebrews 4:8 refers to Joshua in this way also.

& some people, who are unlearned in the Scriptures, think that this is an ERROR in the KJV …

… when it is actually further proof of the KJV’s infallibility.

JOSHUA is the HEBREW name for JESUS.

They’re one in the same.

& when you look at the underlying GREEK WORD, it’s the same word that the apostles used for JESUS.

So it’s even that way in the ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPTS.

Of course, the MODERN BIBLE VERSIONS corrupt this too, and simply put “JOSHUA” …

… thereby breaking any continuity between these names …

& interpreting the originals instead of simply translating them.

LUKE, the writer of Acts, used the GREEK FORM of JESUS in that passage.

The name JOSHUA (HEBREW) went to GREEK (IESOUS) to English (JESUS).

All three names are the same, in three different languages.

JOSHUA was also a TYPE and a PICTURE of JESUS.

Joshua led the children of Israel to a physical promised land & gave them physical rest from their wandering in the desert.

Jesus leads us to our spiritual rest and takes us to heaven.

& this is why you sometimes hear people say, “Yehoshua” and others say, “Yeshua”.

Yehoshua is actually JOSHUA in modern Hebrew.

Yeshua is actually the name “Jeshua” in the Bible, which is a shortened form of the name JOSHUA.

So while we can say w/ certainty that JOSHUA is the HEBREW NAME of JESUS …

… we don’t actually know how the name JOSHUA actually sounded in ancient Hebrew.

And it doesn’t matter, because just like God can translate His Word into English for us and we can trust our English Bible …

… God has translated His name into EVERY LANGUAGE, and one translation of His name is not above another …

… not even in MODERN HEBREW … because MODERN HEBREW is itself ANOTHER TRANSLATION of the ORIGINAL.

• & So this whole YESHUA thing is really JUST ANOTHER ATTACK on the BIBLE …

… & on God’s ability to perfectly preserve His Word.

THE HEBREW ROOTS CULT has NO BIBLE …

… they don’t believe that there is a perfectly preserved Bible.

… which is why they rely so heavily on LEXICONS & extra-Biblical sources for their doctrines …

THEY EVEN POINT to certain NAMES in the BIBLE, like JAMES …

… & claim that the Bible translators were anti-Semitic & so they changed the name JACOB to JAMES.

They claim that he is the JACOB THE APOSTLE & that he wrote the EPISTLE OF JACOB, not JAMES …

… but again, it’s a matter of proper translation.

JAMES is the GREEK VERSION of the name of JACOB.

& this is very common in the Bible.

PETROS > PETER
PAULOS > PAUL

And then from HEBREW to GREEK to ENGLISH ..

JACOB becomes IAKOBOS (which is the Geek of Jacob) > and a little LATIN came in here making it: Iacomus …

(as the Latin name for James was the commonly accepted form of the name when the Bible was being translated) …

… and so a little linguistic evolution occurs …

… and IACOMUS then becomes JAMES in ENGLISH.

We also see HEBREW TO GREEK translations of certain names in the Bible.

ELIJAH > ELIAS in the KJV

ISAIAH > ESAIS

BOAZ > BOOZ

RAHAB > RACHAB

JUDAH > JUDAS

and so on.

The Bible is replete with such examples.

Unlike the modern translations …

… the KJV is just careful to preserve these differences in how the names would have been received in Hebrew vs. Greek.

& THEN OUR FINAL PRIME EXAMPLE:

JOSHUA (HEBREW) > IESOUS (GREEK) > JESUS (ENGLISH)

Again, no corruption, no conspiracy, but simply a PERFECT TRANSLATION.

• So if we’re going to learn about the name of God, we should learn from the Word of God, not outside sources.

It’s like a HEBREW ROOTS guy I talked to recently.

He claimed that God came to him & told him that His name is not JESUS, but YESHUA.

OK, that wasn’t a word from God, but from SATAN!

… God would never deny the name, “JESUS”.

IN FACT, we never see the name, “YESHUA” or “YAWEH” in the English Bible.

… but we do see the name, “JESUS” & “JEHOVAH” in the King James Bible.

After God provided a substitute RAM for ISAAC, Abraham called the name of that place: JEHOVAHJIREH

GENESIS 22:14: “And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.”

That’s the first time the name, “JEHOVAH” appears in the King James Bible.

& from this we learn that JIREH means to PROVIDE, and so JEHOVAHJIREH means GOD PROVIDES.

We see again in Exodus 6:3, that God calls Himself JEHOVAH, when speaking to MOSES.

Exodus 6:3: “And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them.”

In all, the KJV names GOD as JEHOVAH a total of 7 times.

So we know that JEHOVAH is an inspired, PROVIDENTIALLY PRESERVED name of God in the English language.

The transliterated name YESHUA & YAWEH is not.

It is found nowhere in Scripture.

• And they don’t even STOP THERE.

They also attack the title, “THE LORD” which appears in our English Bible.

Their claim is that the LORD was the title for BA’AL.

But, again, that’s a false assertion & a deception.

In our English Bibles, the letters JHVH are replaced with the title, The LORD (ALL CAPS).

& SCHOLARS have a cool & fancy name for this called, the TETRAGRAMMATON.

TETRA simply means 4.
GRAMMA is from the GREEK meaning “LETTER”.

So TETRAGRAMMATON literally means 4 LETTERS.

The Tetragrammaton appears around 7,000 times in the Bible.

ANCIENT HEBREW had no VOWELS, but only CONSONANTS …

… and so JHVH was how the name of God was written out.

& the name was considered so holy among the ancient Israelites & Jews …

… that it was rarely if ever spoken out loud.

& some people believe that this had more to do with superstition …

… but in actuality it probably had more to do with reverence & awe than superstition.

In ancient times, THOSE IN AUTHORITY were often referred to by their TITLES, rather than their NAMES.

To refer to them by their personal names would have been a sign of disrespect …

Another way to think of it …

… is a child not calling his father by his name, but by the title, “Father” …

… or in our more casual modern era, “dad” or “daddy”.

It was the same thing with the name, JEHOVAH.

And so the JEWS called Him ADONAI (which is Hebrew for LORD).

And so the name JHVH was replaced with “the LORD” by English Bible translators to remain consistent.

& so the KJV translators picked 7 passages where they preserved the name JEHOVAH …

… despite replacing it elsewhere with LORD.

… so that it is not lost in translation.

So only the KJV is consistent, accurate, & thoughtful enough to preserve His name in this way.

But MODERN VERSIONS REMOVE JEHOVAH completely.

We see in Genesis 22:4: “And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.”

But it is in the NIV does: “So Abraham called that place The LORD Will Provide. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.”

The ESV, the NASB, & the even NKJV do the same thing, removing the name JEHOVAH completely.

The NLT actually tries to sound like they’re up on the latest issues & changes His name to “Yaweh-Yireh”.

Exodus 6:3, KJV: “And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them.”

The NIV, ESV, and NASB again do the same thing; they remove “JEHOVAH” completely.

And the NLT changes it to Yaweh.

They do the same with Exodus 17:15, Judges 6:24, Psalm 83:18.

KJV: “That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.”

Removed from all the modern versions.

REMOVED from ISAIAH 12:2 & also ISAIAH 26:4.

REMOVED FROM ALL 7 VERSES where the KJV preserves the name JEHOVAH …

The NAME JEHOVAH doesn’t appear even 1 time in the modern Bible versions …

WE ALSO get the MEANING OF JEHOVAH from EXODUS 3 in the KJV, where GOD appears to MOSES.

Exodus 3:13-15:
13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?
14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
15 And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.

God names Himself as, “I AM THAT I AM” or simply “I AM” …

meaning that He exists, that He is the LIVING GOD …

… indicating that He is pre-existent, eternal, and self-sustaining, “He Who Is”.

& then we see that He refers to Himself using the TETRAGRAMMATON, JHVH, in the same passage …

… linking together His name JEHOVAH with I AM …

He says: “The LORD God of your fathers … hath sent you.”

So when you string this together, He says: “Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you … Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, THE LORD [or JEHOVAH] God of your fathers … hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever …”

HIS NAME, JEHOVAH, “I AM” connotes the PERPETUITY of TIME.

It also denotes that He is the ONLY GOD, ETERNAL …

There are no other Gods, because HE IS.

In Isaiah 45:5 He says: “I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me …”

In Isaiah 43:11-13 we read:
11 I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour.
12 I have declared, and have saved, and I have shewed, when there was no strange god among you: therefore ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, that I am God.
13 Yea, before the day was I am he; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand: I will work, and who shall let it?

VERY IMPORTANTLY, WE ALSO SEE THAT THE APOSTLES followed the tradition of using the LORD or the TITLE of GOD in place of JHVH.

… so to say that it’s wrong to say THE LORD is an ERROR of great magnitude …

… and not holding to the apostolic faith of the true church.

An example of the apostles use of the word LORD is Matthew 22:44.

Matthew Himself writes: “The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?”

Matthew uses use the same Greek word for both instances of “LORD” [ALL CAPS] & “Lord”:

He uses the word, KYRIOS for both, which is the GREEK WORD for … “LORD”.

So Matthew calls God, LORD [KYRIOUS] in the GREEK, not JHVH.

The APOSTLES themselves followed the SAME TRADITION of replacing JEHOVAH with The LORD …

… proving that it is right for us to do it also.

This refers back to Psalm 110:1, where “JHVH” appears in the original Hebrew: “… The LORD [there in the Hebrew they use JHVH] said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.”

Yet MATTHEW, who was aware of this, chose not to write JHVH but LORD [KYRIOS] instead.

This vindicates the Bible also, & the KJV translators also.

ANOTHER RIDICULOUS CLAIM that the HEBREW ROOTERS make is that “J” sound didn’t exist until about 400 years ago.

You’re telling me that GOD DIVIDED THE LANGUAGES at the TOWER OF BABEL …

& invented every sound in every language …

… but that He forgot about the J sound & that humanity invented the J sound merely 400 years ago?

I can tell you that I speak FARSI or PERSIAN & it’s a thousands year old language …

… and there is a “J” sound in Farsi.

It’s actually a very prominent sound.

Whether it’s also changed, I don’t know … but I doubt it.

To think that the J Sound is a new & modern invention is utter non-sense.

• They also use the original KJV 1611 version to falsify their claim.

They say that JESUS was spelled IESUS & was not actually pronounced JESUS at the publication of the KJV.

But if you pull up an original KJV 1611 replica, you’ll notice that the TYPEFONT is different than ours today.

This was an old GOTHIC BLACKLETTER FONT.

And in it, the J were sometimes interchanged with an I and the S sometimes looks like an F and the U sometimes like a V.

DISCIPLE is SPELLED DIFCIPLE, and JOHN is spelled IOHN.

Are you telling me that the APOSTLE JOHN’S name in 1611 was pronounced IOHN? instead of JOHN?

Should we say IEWS instead of JEWS?

UNTO is spelled V-N-T-O.

Should we start saying VNTU?

That’s their logic.

GIVE was spelled GIUE so it is GIEU?

Here’s the fact: In this GOTHIC FONT that was used …

They didn’t have a shape for what looks like a CAPITAL J to us.

Their CAPITAL J looked like a CAPITAL I.

And we know this because the letter “j” appears elsewhere, but never as the FIRST LETTER of a WORD.

ABIJAH appears in the 1611 (with a J).
So does ELIJAH.
So does URIJAH & IRIJAH & TOBJIAH

But then look up JAMES and it’s spelled IAMES.

Look up JOSHUA and it’s spelled IOSHUA.

Look up JUDAS, and it’s spelled IUDAS.

It’s simply that in that TYPEFONT at the PRINTER’S they only had one CAPITAL LETTER that was used for both capital I and capital J …

… and people of that time understood this and understood the pronunciation of the names based on their context & familiarity w/ the names.

So to use the 1611 KJV to claim that the J sound never existed because of a typeset is ludicrous.

So that covers the FIRST PART of this sermon, dealing with the NAME & pronunciation of GOD’s name & it’s translations.

Next week, we’ll be getting into the MEAT OF THE HEBREW ROOTS DOCTRINES.

I’m going to prove FROM THE BIBLE that this issue goes much deeper than just the NAME YESHUA.

YESHUA is just a foothold in the door to preach heresy & false religion.

Ultimately, they preach a different name, because THEIR YESHUA is NOT OUR JESUS.

& THEIR DOCTRINES are not OUR DOCTRINES.

• We see all throughout Scripture that the NAME OF JESUS is important …

In Acts 8:12, we see that not only were the disciples preaching the Gospel …

… but they were specifically preaching THE NAME OF JESUS: “But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.”

Ultimately, it comes down to this BOOK, the Bible.

The attack on the name of Jesus is an attack on the Word of God.

And in this life, you’re going to be hit with thousands of heresies.

But if you always fall back to the King James Bible …

… the mouth of every heretic can be stopped.

Colossians 3:17: “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”

I’m sticking with the name of Jesus, it might not be new, trendy or sell as many books and DVDs but its never failed me or lead me astray – and I know it will one day get me safely home.
