GENESIS 6: SONS OF GOD, DAUGHTERS OF MEN
In the last GENESIS sermon, I covered GEN. 4 & 5, which contrasted the Godly line of SETH …
… w/ the ungodly line of CAIN.
AS A WHOLE … the generations of SETH were righteous because they believed in God.
& AS A WHOLE … the generations of CAIN were wicked …
… because their accomplishments, while great & impressive, were only worldly & carnal.
Each of the 2 lines were exemplified by the 7TH SON of their generations …
… the 7th from SETH was ENOCH, who “walked with God” & was translated into heaven before his time.
… the 7th from CAIN was LAMECH …
… who was the first POLYGAMIST … & was a murderer like his father CAIN.
As we DELVE into GENESIS 6 …
… this becomes increasingly important …
… as it becomes the back-drop to the rest of what we read …
… & examine questions like:
1. WHO ARE THE SONS OF GOD who took WIVES of the DAUGHTERS of MEN?
2. WHO ARE THE GIANTS, that were their offspring?
3. & WHY DID GOD FLOOD the EARTH, destroying all MANKIND, except 8?
GENESIS 6:1-2 BEGINS:
1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,
2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
Stop here for a moment.
The BIG CONTROVERSY surrounding Genesis 6 is:
Who are the SONS OF GOD?
Are they FALLEN ANGELS who mated with women or are they HUMAN MEN from the GODLY LINE of SETH?
The answer to this question plays a significant role in understanding the REASON …
… why GOD will flood the EARTH in GENESIS 7.
Those who take the view that the SONS OF GOD are FALLEN ANGELS …
… who cohabited with human women …
… believe that the GIANTS or the NEPHILIM in HEBREW …
… are the result of the supernatural union between HUMANS & ANGELS …
… & they claim that GOD destroyed the EARTH in order to DESTROY the hybrid HUMAN-ANGEL DEMI—GODS …
… which were the result of such a union.
The opposing view claims that this union was the result of children (or sons) of God from the line of Seth …
… who married ungodly women from the line of Cain.
So what does GENESIS 6 is the reason for GOD flooding the EARTH?
Back up to VERSE 2 & let’s read on:
Genesis 6:2-7:
2 … the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
[Notice here that the Bible clearly says that there were ALREADY GIANTS in the earth in those days …
… that’s BEFORE this union between the SON OF GOD & The DAUGHTERS of MEN] …
… so they were there before & they were there after.]
5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
[So, notice, it was the WICKEDNESS OF MAN that was GREAT …
… not of ANGELS or DEMI-GODS.
That’s the FOCUS of GENESIS 6.]
6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.
7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
Before we get further into the REASON FOR THE FLOOD …
… let me get 1 SIDE-POINT out of the way!
THE WORD “REPENT” appears in the Bible for the 1st time, here in Genesis 6.
& notice that it’s GOD who is doing the REPENTING, not MAN.
It might offend you to think of that@ first …
… if you think that the word REPENT automatically mean to REPENT OF SINS …
… or to TURN FROM SINS.
We KNOW that GOD NEVER SINS.
So what is God REPENTING FROM?
TO UNDERSTAND the BIBLICAL WORD, “REPENT” …
… We have to first take the WORD “REPENT” by itself & isolate it …
& determine based on the CONTEXT of each occurrence of the word …
… what is being REPENT OF.
In this case, GOD was REPENTING of MAKING MAN.
He had CHANGED HIS MIND about MAN.
… it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth …
I’m not going to spend a lot of time on REPENTANCE in this SERMON …
… because I’ve covered it in nearly a dozen sermons …
… but suffice it to say …
… that when we run across the word, “REPENT” in the Bible …
… a lot of unsaved, works-based, religious folks think that when the Bible tells unbelievers to REPENT …
… they automatically add the words, “OF SINS” & claim that we have to REPENT or TURN FROM our SINS …
… to be saved.
Whereas the Bible defines REPENTANCE in context of salvation as TURNING from UNBELIEF to FAITH IN CHRIST.
SALVATION is & always has been by GRACE through FAITH …
… & not of works.
But We see in GENESIS 3, v. 3 ..
… that immediately after the co-habitation between the SONS OF GOD & The DAUGHTERS OF MEN …
… that GOD limits the # of days that MAN would have left on the EARTH …
… God limits his days to 120 years.
It would be 120 years from that point until the FLOOD.
This would leave NOAH plenty of time to BUILD THE ARK.
SOME HAVE ALSO INTERPRETED v. 3 to mean that GOD would limit MAN’S LIFESPAN to 120 years …
… but I don’t believe that to be the case.
HERE’S WHY:
Compare Scripture w/ Scripture.
In v. 3, God says: “My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.”
In v. 13 God says to Noah: “The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.”
The context of both of these statements & the chapter as a whole has to do with HOW, WHEN, & WHY GOD would FLOOD the EARTH …
… MAN’S LIFESPAN has nothing to do with the context of Gen. 6.
In fact, if God had limited MAN’S LIFESPAN to 120 years @ this point …
… then NOAH himself & others who were born after him …
… would not have lived as long as they did.
Abraham lived 950 years.
His son SHEM lived 600 years.
… even ABRAHAM (who lived about 500 years AFTER the flood …)
… still lived to 175 years old.
So clearly, God wasn’t talking about the INDIVIDUAL LIFESPAN of MAN …
… but how long MAN had left before the FLOOD.
It was a countdown to ARMAGEDDON so to speak.
GENESIS 6 also directly gives us the REASON for the FLOOD …
Genesis 6:5 says: “GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.”
The REASON that God brought about the FLOOD …
… was not because of HYBRID HUMAN ANGEL DNA …
… but, simply, because QUOTE: “the WICKEDNESS of MAN was great in the earth”.
Notice it says, “MAN”, not “DEMI-GOD” or NEPHILIM there.
Genesis 6:11 also says:
11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.
12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh [meaning man, not angels] had corrupted his way upon the earth.
13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them;
That’s the PRIMARY FOCUS of GENESIS, CHAPTER 6.
By the time we get to GENESIS 6 …
… it hasn’t taken long early in GESNSIS HISTORY, before ALL OF MANKIND …
… has gone in the WAY OF CAIN, …
… rejected GOD & become WICKED, CORRUPT, & VIOLENT.
THE PROBLEM w/ the NEPHILIM VIEW —
& Those who think that God flooded the earth to destroy the GIANTS …
… is that they CHANGE the ENTIRE NARRATIVE of GENESIS.
The FOCUS becomes entirely about FALLEN ANGELS mating with WOMEN …
… rather than what GENESIS 6 actually gives for the REASON for the FLOOD:
… VIOLENCE & WICKEDNESS on the PART OF MAN.
BESIDES, IF GOD HAD DESTROYED THE EARTH just to get rid of the NEPHILIM GIANTS …
… then why did the GIANTS SPRING BACK up only GENERATIONS LATER …
… when JOSHUA goes to CONQUER the PROMISED LAND …
Israel’s spies say in Numbers 13:33: “And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.”
THIS WAS AFTER THE FLOOD.
The NEPHILIM VIEW makes God seem incompetent …
… & as though He has a lack of insight & foreknowledge …
… & is incapable of really destroying the NEPHILIM.
Genesis 6:4 even calls the OFFSPRING of the SONS OF GOD & the DAUGHTERS OF MEN …
… MIGHTY MEN … MEN OF RENOWN …
Clearly calling them MEN, HUMAN, not DEMI-GOD OFFSPRING.
Now, we can get into much greater detail on this topic …

& so you can go back & watch that …
… but let’s just look @ at few more highlights to drive home the point.
ONE VERY IMPORTANT RULE of true BIBLICAL EXEGESIS …
… is to INTERPRET the OLD TESTAMENT by the NEW TESTAMENT.
THE NT, being the FULL REVELATION & FULFILLMENT of what the OT prophesied about & foreshadowed …
… is what we look to, to rightly divide the Word of Truth.
In the NT, EVERY TIME that the phrase, “SONS OF GOD” is used …
… the BIBLE is REFERRING TO BELIEVERS & NEVER ANGELS.
Hebrews 1:5-7 says:
5 For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?
6 And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.
7 And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.
ANGELS are never called SONS in the Bible …
… they are MINISTERING SPIRITS.
God has a completely different relationship with the ANGELS than He does with MEN.
With BELIEVERS, God has a FATHER/SON relationship …
… or FATHER / DAUGHTER relationship …
Speaking of the Believer, Romans 8:14-16 says:
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
WE’RE the children of God, NOT the ANGELS!
Angels are created BEINGS, ministering SPIRITS, created to serve both GOD & MAN.
Hebrews 1:14 says: “Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?”
John 1:12 says: “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:”
Believers are the Sons of God!
Galatians 3:26 says: “For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.”
Ephesians 1:5: “Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,”
1 John 3:1: “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God …”
& this isn’t even a NT concept only!
God called the children of ISRAEL his son, when Moses went before Pharaoh, in Exodus 4:22-23:
22 And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD, Israel is my son, even my firstborn:
23 And I say unto thee, Let my son go, that he may serve me:
In 2 Samuel 7:14, God called Solomon His son: “I will be his father, and he shall be my son.”
God says in Jeremiah 31:20: “Is Ephraim my dear son? is he a pleasant child? for since I spake against him, I do earnestly remember him still …”
Do we ever see such words applied to the ANGELS?
You know, people point to JOB, where the SONS OF GOD appeared in the PRESENCE of the LORD …
… & SATAN appeared among them …
… but I also answered that in the SETHITE VIEW sermon …
… where we see that the PRESENCE OF THE LORD was HERE ON THE EARTH …
… & the sons of God were believers who were worshipping God!
God says in Hosea 1:10, again in the OT: “… and it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, there it shall be said unto them, Ye are the sons of the living God.”
Here’s the real reason why God FLOODED the EARTH.
It wasn’t because of NEPHILIM!
It goes back to the GENEALOGICAL CONTEXT of GENESIS 4 & 5.
The GODLY LINE of BELIEVERS (The SONS OF GOD) …
… marrying the UNGODLY LINE (the DAUGHTERS OF MEN).
IT WAS ABOUT BELIEVERS MARRYING NON-BELIEVERS …
… this led to CORRUPTION & spiritual pollution among the GODLY LINE …
… which in turn led to VIOLENCE & WICKEDNESS …
We see a PROHIBITION against believers marrying unbelievers throughout the Bible.
God even codifies this in the LAW when He warns ISRAEL that He would destroy them if they married non-believers.
Deuteronomy 7:1-4
1 When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou;
2 And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them:
3 Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son.
4 For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly.
So there’s a direct parallel between WHY GOD destroyed the earth …
… & believers marrying unbelievers …
… because it would lead them to apostasy, unbelief, & wickedness.
This becomes all the more important when you understand that GOD was raising up a FAITHFUL LINE …
… going back to that PROMISE in GENESIS 3:15 about the SEED OF THE WOMAN …
GOD WAS RAISING UP a HOLY PEOPLE & a HOLY NATION …
… so that He could dispense the LAW …
… the LAW which would convict the WORLD OF SIN …
… & The NATION & PEOPLE through whom the MESSIAH, the SEED, would spring forth …
In Deuteronomy 7:6, God says: “For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.”
This was played out many times in the Bible …
… from SAMSON whose undoing was marrying a PHILISTINE WOMAN, named DELILAH …
… to KING SOLOMON, who fell into IDOLATRY towards the end of his life.
1 Kings 11:1-3:
1 But king Solomon loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites;
2 Of the nations concerning which the LORD said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall not go in to them, neither shall they come in unto you: for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: Solomon clave unto these in love.
3 And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart.
NEHEMIAH encountered the same problem w/ the ISRAELITES.
Nehemiah 13:23-27:
23 In those days also saw I Jews that had married wives of Ashdod, of Ammon, and of Moab:
24 And their children spake half in the speech of Ashdod, and could not speak in the Jews’ language, but according to the language of each people.
25 And I contended with them, and cursed them, and smote certain of them, and plucked off their hair, and made them swear by God, saying, Ye shall not give your daughters unto their sons, nor take their daughters unto your sons, or for yourselves. [Very similar language here to GENESIS 6, about the SONS of GOD taking wives from the DAUGHTERS OF MEN].
26 Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? yet among many nations was there no king like him, who was beloved of his God, and God made him king over all Israel: nevertheless even him did outlandish women cause to sin.
27 Shall we then hearken unto you to do all this great evil, to transgress against our God in marrying strange wives?
& it’s the same today.
GOD DOESN’T WANT CHRISTIANS to MARRY NON-CHRISTIANS …
… or to have intimate relations with them …
… you can’t be BEST FRIENDS with a NON-BELIEVER!
2 Corinthians 11:14-15:
14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
& SO WHAT DO WE SEE IN GENESIS 6?
The SONS OF GOD (MEN OF FAITH) marrying the DAUGHTERS OF MEN (UNGODLY, UNBELIEVING WOMEN).
& as MAN begins to POPULATE the EARTH …
… it gets to the point that there is only 1 RIGHTEOUS MAN left alive during this time!
GOD was so merciful that He allowed MAN to reign on the earth …
… until there was literally only 1 left …
NOAH.
GENESIS 6:8 says: “But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.”
NOTICE, that the Bible doesn’t highlight NOAH’S WORKS @ first …
… but it does HIGHLIGHT the fact that he was righteous because of GRACE.
Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD …
It’s in the next verse, that it says: “… Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.”
NOAH was PERFECT not because he was without sin …
… but because He WALKED with GOD.
He had IMPUTED RIGHTEOUSNESS that comes THROUGH FAITH.
1 Peter 3:20 says: “… the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.”
& so NOAH & HIS FAMILY alone were saved from the FLOOD.
GENESIS 6:9 picks up w/ the GENERATIONS of NOAH:
9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.
10 And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.
12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.
13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
IN GENESIS 8, after the FLOOD, when NOAH exists the ARK …
… God again gives the reason as to WHY He flooded the earth.
Genesis 8:21 says: “And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth …”
But here in Genesis 6, God commands NOAH to BUILD an ARK.
In Genesis 6:14, God says: “Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.”
So the ARK was made of GOPHER WOOD & was sealed with PITCH.
The word, “GOPHER” is used only once in the Bible, here in Genesis 6:14 …
… so it’s hard to determine with certainty what type of wood it actually was …
In Hebrew, the word is literally “GOFER” …
… so it’s a TRANSLITERATION in most English translations, including the KJV.
Modern versions like the NIV & NLT take the liberty of interpreting this word for you …
They insert CYPRESS WOOD instead of GOPHER WOOD, as the original manuscripts say.
Now, it could have been CYPRESS WOOD …
…. as CYPRESS was big & strong & abundant in the region …
… but CYPRESS also appears in the Bible — only 1 time — in Isaiah 44:14 …
… & it’s a different Hebrew word that’s used there … NOT GOPHER.
But it really doesn’t matter now what type of WOOD it was …
… for all we know, it may have been a TREE that is now extinct, after the FLOOD.
The point is the ARK was made out of a type of WOOD that would have withstood the length of the FLOOD.
& it was waterproofed w/ PITCH.
PITCH is a TAR-LIKE OIL … but in NOAH’S DAY, it wouldn’t have been PETROLEUM-based …
… but possibly from the RESIN of TREES & other natural resources.
IN GENESIS 6:15-16 God goes on to give NOAH the DIMENSIONS of the ARK:
15 And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.
16 A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it

A CUBIT, in Biblical times, was from the length of the ELBOW to the FINGERTIPS.
* SHOW *
But much like a SPAN …
… which was the TIP of the extended THUMB to the TIP of the extended PINKY.
MEASUREMENTS were calculated in a way that wasn’t 100% accurate.
They weren’t as technical as we are today …
… & so sometimes we have to bear that in mind.
& 1 SPAN was 1/2 a CUBIT.
[DEMONSTRATE].
So 2 SPANS were 1 CUBIT.
Of course, MIKE probably has a longer ELBOW than I do …
… so measurements were APPROXIMATE.
There were SHORT CUBITS & LONG CUBITS …
But GOD told NOAH to make the ARK 300 CUBITS LONG x 50 CUBITS WIDE x 30 CUBITS TALL …
… Roughly speaking, by modern estimates, the ARK would have been ….
… somewhere between 450-500 FEET LONG (depending on if you’re using the SHORT or LONG CUBIT) ….
… x 75-85 FEET WIDE x 45 – 50 FEET TALL.
BUT SKEPTICS question how all the animals & species of the universe could have fit inside the ARK.
NOW, I’m not going to spend a lot of time on this …
… because there are a lot of capable Saints who have dedicated their entire ministries to questions like this …
But without endorsing any 1 group ..
… there’s ANSWERS IN GENESIS, there’s KENT HOVIND, there’s CREATION.COM …
BUT FIRST OF ALL, you can rule out all the FISH —
NOAH only brought BIRDS, MAMMALS, & REPTILES, into the ARK.
You can also rule out ALL PLANTS, because these mostly would have regenerated from SEEDS.
SECOND, God didn’t need EVERY TYPE OF BREED known to MAN today to fit inside the ARK.
He only needed the MAIN BREED –
& Then they would have adapted & cross-bred.
For example, HORSES, ZEBRAS, & DONKEYS could have come from a common EQUINE-TYPE ANCESTOR.
DOGS, WOLVES, COYOTES, & JACKALS, from a K9-type ancestor.
The latest research on this states that there were probably somewhere around 16,000 KINDS of ANIMALS on the ARK.
HENRY MORRIS, who is among the leading researchers on YOUNG EARTH CREATIONISM & the FLOOD …
… states that allowing for 2 of each KIND of ANIMAL … & 7 of each of the CLEAN ANIMALS …
… he estimates that there were probably not more than 50,000 animals on the ARK in TOTALITY.
THIRD, when it came to dinosaurs & larger creatures …
… GOD likely brought the very young into the ARK …
… they didn’t have to be fully grown.
& THE ARK WAS BIG!
450 FEET TALL x 75 FEET WIDE x 45 FEET TALL may not sound like a lot …
… but that’s about 2.77 million cubic feet of space on the ARK!
With its 3-levels!
NOW, Personally, I just take it by FAITH that God was able to fit all the animals onto the ARK.
But you can go research this & get into the MATH of IT if you want.
In Genesis 6:17-18, God continues to instruct NOAH:
17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.
18 But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons’ wives with thee.
This is the 1ST TIME that a “COVENANT” is mentioned in the Bible.
There was a PROMISE MADE to ADAM & EVE in GENESIS 3:15 …
… which is the SEED or ROOT of all proceeding covenants …
… This was the PROMISE or COVENANT which would lead to the MESSIAH.
But now a specific COVENANT is made with NOAH & his family alone.
God says to NOAH: “… with thee will I establish my covenant …” & Then God mentions NOAH’S WIFE & his SONS & his sons’s wives …
FIRST, the COVENANT was simply that GOD would SPARE NOAH & his family.
That part of the COVENANT was a PERSONAL COVENANT given to NOAH alone.
… AFTER THE FLOOD, we see that GOD extends this covenant to NOAH’S SEED …
… which in essence is ALL MANKIND …
Since every person to be born after that time would be a direct descendent of NOAH.
ALL OF US HERE TODAY have NOAH as our COMMON ANCESTOR …
… & therefore also SETH … & also ADAM …
You see, everyone else was WIPED OUT.
GOD STARTED OVER w/ NOAH.
& In GENESIS 9, AFTER THE FLOOD, GOD extends the covenant He gave to NOAH, to all MANKIND:
Genesis 9:8-11 says:
8 And God spake unto Noah, and to his sons with him, saying,
9 And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you;
10 And with every living creature that is with you, of the fowl, of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you; from all that go out of the ark, to every beast of the earth.
11 And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.
12 And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations:
We’ll get into this more later when we get to GENESIS 9 …
… but suffice it to say that NOAH’S COVENANT was extended to ALL MAN, even to us today.
God will NEVER AGAIN destroy the EARTH w/ a FLOOD.
The next time, it will be w/ FIRE …
2 Peter 3:6-7 says:
6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
& so along w/ the PROMISE of the coming of the MESSIAH in GENESIS 3:15 …
… this is the 1ST DIRECT COVENANT that we encounter …
& it was an unconditional covenant …
… meaning that it was a ONE-SIDED PROMISE …
… implemented by GOD & kept by GOD alone.
… MAN did not have to meet ANY REQUIREMENTS or do ANYTHING …
… in order for GOD to perform what He said He would do.
THERE WILL NEVER AGAIN be a worldwide flood!
GENESIS 6 ends w/ verses 19-22:
19 And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female.
20 Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive.
21 And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them.
22 Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.
& so NOAH was OBEDIENT to GOD’S WORD, being the only FAITHFUL MAN, along with his family ….
… left on the EARTH @ this time.
God was justified in what He had determined to do.
